1. Introduction & Scope

ScholarshipHQ ("we", "us", "our") is committed to protecting the privacy and personal data of our users ("you", "scholars"). This Privacy Policy explains our practices regarding the collection, processing, storage, and protection of information across our website, mobile interfaces, and AI matching tools.

Our data processing practices strictly comply with the Nigeria Data Protection Act (NDPA / NDPR), the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), and relevant international data privacy standards.

2. Information We Collect

A. Information You Provide Directly:

  • Account Data: Name, email address, password hash, avatar preferences.
  • Academic Profile Data: Country of citizenship, current education level, target study destination, discipline/major, GPA/degree class, and standardized test scores (IELTS/GRE).
  • Application Tracking: Bookmarked grants, application deadlines, checklist progression.

B. Automated Diagnostic Data:

  • Device type, browser fingerprint, IP address, and anonymized search filter telemetry.

3. How We Use Your Data

We process your data strictly for legitimate educational matchmaking purposes:

  • Powering the AI Eligibility Matcher to compute grant match percentages;
  • Dispatching personalized deadline reminders and grant notifications;
  • Preventing bot attacks, scam listings, and unauthorized scraping;
  • Delivering customer support and addressing technical inquiries.

4. No-Sale of Personal Data Pledge

OUR ABSOLUTE GUARANTEE: We do NOT sell, rent, license, or trade your student profile, email address, or contact details to third-party data brokers, marketers, or predatory student loan advertisers.

5. Third-Party Service Providers

We only share minimal encrypted data with trusted infrastructure providers necessary to operate the platform:

  • Payment Processors: Paystack and Stripe for secure PCI-DSS compliant payment processing. We never store raw debit/credit card numbers.
  • Cloud Infrastructure: Encrypted databases and CDN providers with SOC-2 certification.
  • Transactional Email: Secure SMTP gateways for delivering authentication links and deadline alerts.

6. Cookies & Local Storage

We use strictly necessary session cookies and local storage tokens to keep you securely signed in, preserve your filter preferences, and maintain your active scholarship comparison drawer.

7. Data Security & Retention

All data transmitted to and from ScholarshipHQ is encrypted using industry-standard TLS 1.3 encryption. Data at rest is encrypted using AES-256. We retain your profile data only for as long as your account remains active or as required by law.

8. Your Data Protection Rights

Under NDPR and GDPR, you have the right to:

  • Request a portable copy of all personal data held about you;
  • Request immediate correction of inaccurate academic profile data;
  • Request the complete deletion of your account and associated records (Right to be Forgotten);
  • Opt-out of email alerts at any time via a single click in your profile.
